The American Idol producers would like to do an "American Idol All Stars" show. Nigel Lythgoe wants to invite some of the most memorable Idol contestants back to take part in the song competition they are doing this year. He wants to have some of the past contestants sing the top ten songs for the competition, and then have the viewers vote on their favorite song based on their performances.
When I first read about this story I thought they wanted to do a whole season with past contestants, which I though was a horrible idea, and while this is slightly better I don't think its something they should do. No doubt it will be fun to see the past contestants and what they have been up to, but I'm afraid this will screw up the song contest.
This contest has a pretty good chance of maybe actually producing a GOOD Idol single, and I think that if we vote on the songs based on other contestants renditions, we won't end up voting for the best SONG. There is so much competition between fan bases on Idol, and I'm afraid the fans will vote like crazy for their favorite contestant, even if their song sucks. We don't even know for sure if this will happen yet, so I won't get too worked up yet, but I am not excited for the idea of an "American Idol All Stars."
