Last night on American Idol the final six took the stage once again, this time to the songs of Bon Jovi. I wasn't that excited for the theme this week, but it ended up being one of the bests this season. A couple of finalists took big risks, and it made off for some....others not so much.
Phil Stacey- "Blaze Of Glory" Phil acutally really impressed me last night, with what I thought was one of his best performances all year. He sounded great and really tried to perform- even if I didn't find the rocker thing all that believable. His confidence has gone way up these past few weeks and it really shows in his performances. I would really like Phil to go home this week, just because I don't really think he deserves to be in the top 4, but I'm thinking these last performances will be enough to save him one or two more weeks.
Jordin Sparks- "Livin' on a Prayer" When I found out Jordin was singing this song, I was really excited because I really like it, however she didn't do so well. The thing I like however, is that she knew she wasn't doing too well, but she still gave it her all. Also, she actually tried to do something way outside her comfort zone. She is the only one that actually did the theme without tailoring it to her own strenghths. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people don't even attempt the themes- they just sing essentially the same song every night. For this reason, Jordin still got my vote, even if was the worst of the night. Luckily- her performance last week will be enough to save her- at least that coupled with the sympathy votes she'll get for the stunt they pulled on her last week and the fact that she didn't do so well last night.
LaKisha Jones- "This Ain't A Love Song" Well she did a great job...and somehow chose the perfect song (for once), but one makes me mad is that it was such a safe choice. She didn't attempt to show versality, because she has none, and she didn't attempt to do anything other than the ballads she does each week. If Jordin had picked this song, she probably would have done even better than LaKisha did it....However, if we forget these past two weeks, LaKisha defiantely deserves to be in the top 4...but because of two people going home and the fact that she didn't do well (according to the judges) last week, she might go home anyway
Blake Lewis- "You Give Love A Bad Name" It was a huge risk. Huge, and I didn't think it would work...at all. But somehow it did. I loved it...even though it was full of beatboxing, which I hate. I really do not like that Blake never actually does the themes, but I love that he is original enough to make them his own and take risks. Last night, Blake was amazing and really has me hoping for a Blake and Jordin finale.
Chris Richardson- "Wanted Dead or Alive" It was an okay performance, but that was it. On a usual night, it probably would have been acceptable, but on a night where everybody was so much better (or worse) than usual, it just faded away. It was by far the most forgettable performance of the night, and it is very likely that he won't be here next week because of it.
Melinda Doolittle- "Have A Nice Day" I am quite convinced that Melinda can sing anything. She just gives every performance her all and throws herself into in completely. I LOVE that she tried to do something new, however outside of her comfort zone she was. It was another great peformance from Melinda and I loved every second of it. She definatley deserves to make the finale, but she just might be the shock elimination thats bound to come sooner or later.
Overall, last night was a great night. I was very impressed my most of the contestants, and despite my original reservataions, think it was great theme choice! Make sure to watch American Idol tonight to see which TWO contestants will be going home!
