As I posted at the beginning of the season, American Idol is hosting a songwriting contest this year! I have received a lot of email asking about more information and I finally have some.

The american idol songwriting contest is for amateur songwriters, who are over the age of 18 and have no exclusive publishing deals. The songwriter is responsible for finding a way to record the song, and uploading it to http://songwriter.americanidol.com/. A team from Idol, including the creator Simon Fuller, will choose the top 20 songs, which will then be posted online. The fans will have a week to vote for their favorite song starting on May 2, and the winner will be announced on the finale.

The winner of the songwriting contest will get a one song deal with 19 entertainment and a $10,000 cash advance. There is a ten dollar entry fee, but if you think you could write a good enough song, than I would suggest you enter. It's an awesome opportunity for songwriters!

Good Luck to anybody that ends up entering the American Idol songwriting contest and I will be sure to remind y'all when it is time to vote for your favorite song!
