Last night on American Idol, the top 11 took on songs from the British Invasion, and overall it was one of the best nights so far this season! The contestants did a pretty good job picking songs, sang them well and performed as well! There were a couple of performances I could have done without, but I think they did a pretty good job!
Haley Scarnato- Tell Him I think Haley chose the perfect song and did a great job showing personality, both things she has struggled with all season. It was nice to see her finally performing and coming out of her shell a little bit, even if it did seem to be a little awkward. Overall, it was probably her best performance this season, but was still one of the weakest of the night & her sex appeal will probably earn her a spot on the tour though.
Chris Richardson- Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying I really liked the acoustic arrangement, with the guitarist on stage! I didn't really like the actual song though, I was a little bit bored by it. However, Chris did a great job showing off his voice and his versatility!
Stephanie Edwards- 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me The vocals were okay, definitely not her best, but Stephanie's real problem is that she is so boring. She didn't choose a very good song either. I think Stephanie is in danger of being in the bottom three tonight, and even though she doesn't deserve it, I won't miss her at all if she leaves.
Blake Lewis- Time Of The Season I think Blake did a pretty good job, but his voice got lost in the music a little bit, and didn't really stand out. He did do a much better job rearranging the song this time and is a very modern and contemporary artist, which is nice. Once again, Blake was probably the best performer of the night, but I really hope that in the next couple of weeks he sings at least one song without changing it, beat boxing or dancing, I want him to just show off his voice...and wear some pants that aren't plaid, because he wears the ugliest pants ever.
Lakisha Jones- Diamonds Are Forever I think she should have chosen the other song because this was very boring. Once again, she did the same exact thing she has always done and the vocals were great and blah blah blah. She isn't very modern, and although her voice is excellent, I don't think she would have much success after Idol if she did win. This was probably my least favorite performance by her yet & the diamonds were pretty though!
Phil Stacey- Tobacco Road My first thought when he came out was You aren't Chris Daughtry stop trying to act like you are. It just seemed so unnatural for him to be doing this style of music, it was like he was playing dress up, or it was Halloween and he decided to be a Rocker. It definitely was not believable. I don't think Phil really knows what kind of artist he is, and that's his biggest problem. He will most likely be in the bottom three tonight because this was a horrible performance.
Jordin Sparks- Who Have Nothing Normally when 17 year olds on Idol try to sing love songs Simon yells at them because they don't have the experience and it doesn't work because it isn't believable, but Jordin did an amazing job. She picked a great song for her voice and gave another amazing performance. Jordin has really been the big surprise so far this year I am very impressed by her! She knew when it was time to kick it up a few notches I hope she sings an up tempo song next week though, just because she is so fun and can really use that to her advantage!
Sanjaya Malakar- You Really Got Me Oh Sanjaya, We are just going to keep this short Please put the poor boy out of his misery! It did not work for him at all, another horrendous performance by Sanjaya he really needs to leave...I can't watch him embarrass himself any longer.
Gina Glocksen- Paint It Black Well, she did a lot better than Phil at least the rock vibe is believable from her. She did a good job performing, but the vocals were a little off. I think Gina needs to work on controlling her voice a little if she learned how to use her voice better I think she would improve tremendously. It was probably one of the not so good performances of the night, but she'll make it to the tour! And can I please quote one of the greatest lines on this show ever All this feel free nonsense. That's not advice. HAHA! Simon is very funny this season.
Chris Sligh- She's Not Here It was a nice performance and a nice song choice. I really liked the ending of the song, and he once again showed that he had a great voice. His interaction with the judges always makes me laugh, I loved how he commented that it isn't a happy song It's about a girl who's not there. Chris is still one of my favorite contestants, and although he can do a lot better than he did last night, he improved drastically from last week.
Melinda Doolittle- As Long As He Needs Me She does a great job drawing you in and making you want to watch her. Her vocals were amazing again and her hair was cute. This was probably the first time where she wasn't really the star of the show though. I hope she does an up tempo song next week as well, because we know she can sing but I want to see her do something else!
Make sure to watch American Idol tonight to see who which contestant won't be on the tour this summer!
