Tuesday night the boys on American Idol did a horrible job...horrible. The show started out fine, and ended fine but the middle was just a big mess. I definitely agree with the judges when they say there should only be 4 boys in the top 12...very few of them have proven that the have the vocal ability (or performance skills) to be the American Idol...anyway here is my review of the top 8 boys: Blake Lewis- "All Mixed Up" I really think he should have skipped the beatboxing this week...it worked last week but it's starting to become too much...it is a singing competition after all. That being said, this was definitely one of the best performances last night, despite it being Blake's weakest performance so far. The vocals weren't as good as usual, but he is still the only contestant that really performs so that more than made up for it! He is unique and different and I cant see him not making the top 12! Sanjaya Malakar- "Waiting On The World To Change" It was definitely his best performance yet but it was still boring with horrendous vocals. It was nice to see some personality from him in his video clip...although that coupled with his straightened hair didn't really help with his masculinity...haha. He is improving, so that is good, and he will make the top 12 because he has a huge fan base, but I don't think he deserves to be there. Sundance Head- "Jeremy" It was a good song choice but it didn't work for him. He ended up shouting the song and it didn't sound all that great. He will most likely make the top 12, but he needs to improve because I don't know how much further his audition and one good performance can carry him. Chris Richardson- "Tonight I Wanna Cry" I did not at all expect him to sing a song like this, but he has really done a good job at mixing it up and doing something a little different each week. It wasn't as fun as his other performances but it showed off his voice pretty well. I don't really like the tone of his voice, but he is a good singer. He will make the top 12 and I think he will keep getting better...he just might end up being the Elliott this season.....starting out as the underdog but improving every week and making it pretty far. Jared Cotter- "If You Really Love Me" He chose a horrible song, and his performance was not good at all. His voice was all over the place and his facial expressions make him look like he is in pain...I do not enjoy watching him at all. I do not think he has a shot at making the top 12. Brandon Rogers- "I Just Want To Celebrate" It was okay, but nothing spectacular and very forgettable and boring. I think my problem with Brandon is that I don't know what kind of music he will sing...he has been kind of all over the place. He has a good voice though and there is definate potential there. He will just barely make the top 12, but he won't get much further than that if he doesn't pick song that complement his voice better. Phil Stacey- "I Need You" This has got to be the most bizarre, and worst song choice ever. Which wouldn't have been too terrible if he had done a great job singing...but he didn't. I don't think any note of that song sounded right and his eyes were really creepy. I think this performance probably lost him his spot in the top 12...he was doing pretty well up until this week. Chris Sligh- "Just Wanna Be Loved" Despite the horrific song choice, this was easily the best performance of the night. Every week his vocals are terrific and I absolutely love to tone of his voice. His only problem this week was song choice...other than that everything was almost perfect! There is no way he won't make the top 12. So that concludes my review of the top 8 guys...my predictions are that Jared and Phil are going home Thursday...speaking of Thursday, don't forget to watch Idol because it's going to be a big show...Carrie Underwood is going to sing her newest single "Wasted," we find out who will make the top 12 of American Idol and we get to find out about this big surprise that the have been hyping all season...honestly I'll probably be more surprised if it is actually something big and surprising, but I doubt it will be. I guess we will find out Thursday on American Idol.
