American Idol top 16: Girls

Last night on American Idol the girls proved, once again, that they are so much better than the boys! There were a couple of boring and lackluster performances but for the most part the girls gave it their all. I'm running late for class so I'm just going to get to it...

Jordin Sparks- Heartbreaker This was a great way to start off the night. She chose a great song and was so much better than last week. She has a lot of potential, and a great voice but she needs to learn to use it a little better I think. She gave a great performance, and although it wasn't her best it was enough to get her into the top 12.

Sabrina Sloane- Don't Let Go She also chose a great song and has a great voice. It wasn't her best though, and she needs to show a little more personality in her performances. She does the same thing every week it seems. I really like her and think she could make it in to the top 12 unless she falls victim to vote splitting. She is very similar to Lakisha, Stephanie and Melinda and they are all competing for the same fan base, so they don't end up getting as many votes as they should. I fear it might be kind of like season 3 when Jennifer was sent home way too early. I think she should make the top 12, and probably will, but I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if she didn't.

Antonella Barba- Put Your Records On It would have been a great song choice is she could actually sing. I definitely agree with Simon that she has gone as far as she can go. Her performance tonight was forgettable and the vocals were not good at all, despite the fact that this was one of her better performances. I don't think she will make the top 12, but because of the vote splitting described above she might make it over one of the more deserving contestants.

Haley Scarnato- If My Heart Had Wings It was a very forgettable and boring performance and definitely the wrong song choice. She sang it well enough but the song was too boring and the whole performance fell kind of flat. She needed the performance of her life tonight to make it to the top 12, and this most definitely wasn't it. There is no chance she is making the top 12.

Stephanie Edwards- Sweet Thing She has a good voice but she kind of gets lost in the mix if you ask me. She is very musically similar to Lakisha and Melinda but isn't nearly as good of a singer. This wasn't her best vocal but it was probably enough to make the top 12 despite her not being unique at all. This is another person who I think deserves to make the top 12, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't.

Lakisha Jones- I Have Nothing This was another great performance from Lakisha, who looked beautiful last night. She didn't over sing the song, she hit all of the notes and she really commands the stage when she sings. Her only problem is that she has shown absolutely no versatility- we all know she can sing, we want to see her do something else. If this is all she can do her album is going to be so boring. Regardless, she could have stood on stage and done nothing for a minute and a half and she still would have made it to the top 12 she needs to start showing some versatility though, you can't get by with voice alone.

Gina Glocksen- Call Me When You're Sober Well, she looks the part tonight, so Simon can stop complaining about that! She did a good job with the song, despite over singing it a bit in parts. I really liked this performance and she is the only girl who can offer a little something different. I think she will make it to the top 12 because she has a pretty big fan base and is the only one doing this style of music.

Melinda Doolittle- I'm A Woman I really like the song it was a great choice! It wasn't her best vocal but we already know she can sing so it was nice to see a performance out of her. She is a lot of fun and has done something a little different every week, unlike Lakisha. She is another sure bet for the top 12, and I'm glad because she is amazing, and humble, unlike some other contestants.

I unfortunately am going to have to tape American Idol tonight, but yall should watch FOX at 7:00 because it should be a pretty good show...Carrie Underwood, The Big Surprise and of course the unveiling of the top 12!
