Since this is the first week, I don't know why they just don't let the contestants pick any song they want. Nope, it's sixties week. These songs came out before these contestants were born.

Jason Castro - Daydream
Danny Noriega - Jailhouse Rock
Michael Johns - Light My Fire
I thought Daydream was a great song choice for Jason Castro, and I thought David Cook really made So Happy Together into something hip and modern. I'd like to see Michael Johns try something other than the Doors. Most of the other song choices were horrible.
It will be interesting to see what the girls pick.

Why would Simon as producer sit back and allow such a poor quality balancing of the voices with the music over the TV network?? Why are the singers buried in reverb and the background music as loud or drowning out the singers?? The singers don't have a chance due to the poor technical quality caused by their staff. I am sure other musicians would agree ! I wish this message would get to the responsible individuals.
